Weapons
Firearms, airguns, ammunition, knives intended as weapons, and restricted weapons of any kind.
Drugs and drug paraphernalia
Controlled drugs, legal highs, and equipment intended for drug use.
Alcohol
Supplying alcohol is licensed in New Zealand and is not permitted here.
Tobacco and vaping products
Cigarettes, tobacco, vapes, e-liquids and related products.
Explosives and fireworks
Fireworks, flares, ammunition components, and any explosive material.
Dangerous chemicals
Poisons, solvents, agricultural chemicals, asbestos and hazardous waste.
Prescription medication
Prescription and pharmacy-only medicines, including for animals.
Live animals
Kerb Side is for objects. Please use a rehoming service for animals.
Stolen property
Anything you do not own outright and have the right to give away.
Anything illegal
Anything prohibited under New Zealand law, or restricted to licensed sellers.
Recalled or unsafe goods
Items subject to a product recall, or that fail New Zealand product safety standards — including cots, car seats and nightwear that do not meet current standards.
Safer disposal
If you have something on this list, your local council is the right place to start. Most councils run free or low-cost drop-offs for hazardous waste, paint, chemicals and e-waste. Pharmacies take back unused medicines. Police handle firearms and ammunition.
Items that need extra care
Some things are allowed but need honesty about their condition. Cots, car seats, helmets and children's nightwear are subject to New Zealand product safety standards, and older items often no longer meet them. Please say clearly if something is past its expiry, has been in an accident, or does not meet the current standard — and consider whether it is genuinely safe to pass on at all.
Anything with a live safety recall cannot be given away, even if it still works.
Selling is also prohibited
Kerb Side is completely free. Selling items is not allowed — no prices, no offers, no koha, no swaps. Listings that mention a price or ask for money are refused automatically.
