Community guidelines
Kerb Side works because people are decent to each other. Here is what that looks like in practice.

Everything is free
No prices, no offers, no koha, no swaps, no “just cover my petrol”. If money or an exchange is involved in any way, it does not belong on Kerb Side. This is the one rule the whole platform rests on.
Only say you’re keen if you will actually collect
Tapping “I’m keen” takes an item out of the feed for everyone else and gives you someone's home address. Please only do it for things you genuinely intend to pick up, and say so promptly if your plans change, so someone else can have it.
Be honest about condition
- Photograph the item as it actually is, including the scratches.
- Say if something is broken, incomplete, or needs repair — plenty of people want a project.
- Do not describe something as working if you have not checked.
Respect people’s homes
- Turn up when you said you would, or let the poster know.
- Follow the collection notes — if it says “outside the front gate”, stay at the gate.
- Do not knock outside reasonable hours.
- Take the item you were keen on, and nothing else.
- Leave the place as you found it.
Keep addresses private
A collection address is shared with you alone, so you can pick up one item. Do not share it, post it, screenshot it into a group chat, or use it for anything else. Treating someone's address carelessly is the fastest way to lose your account.
Keep it on Kerb Side
Do not phone, text or message each other, and do not ask anyone to. There is nothing to arrange: the address and collection notes are handed over automatically once someone is keen, and the item is waiting where the notes say. Kerb Side has no messaging on purpose.
Listings that publish a phone number or email address are refused, and asking to be contacted first is flagged for review. Moving people off-platform is the standard opening move in a scam, and a number in a public listing is visible to everyone, not just the person collecting.
Be kind
Kerb Side covers a lot of ground, and the person on the other end is your neighbour. Rudeness, harassment, discrimination and abusive behaviour are not tolerated. Ratings use fixed tags rather than free text on purpose — there is no space here for a cruel review.
What happens if guidelines are broken
- Minor issues: a listing is removed and you get a note explaining why.
- Repeated missed collections: a warning, then a temporary pause. You can still give things away.
- Serious breaches — prohibited items, selling, misusing an address, harassment: immediate removal and account suspension.
- Unlawful behaviour is reported to New Zealand Police.
We do not publicly shame anyone. Enforcement is private, between us and the account holder.
