How Kerb Side works

Kerb Side runs 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, every day. Outside those hours the app is shut — nothing is listed, nobody can say they’re keen, and nobody is knocking on a stranger’s door after dark.

Nothing carries over on its own. At 6:00 pm every listing comes off the feed and the stored address is deleted. If you still want to give something away tomorrow, tap Relist in My Items after 6:00 am — so everything you see on Kerb Side is something a real person has confirmed is still there today.

1. Take a photo. One is enough, though you can add up to six. Location data is stripped automatically.
2. Name it and pick a category. “Wooden coffee table”, Furniture. A short description helps.
3. Add your collection address. This stays private — it is only shared with whoever is keen on the item.
4. Add a collection note. “Outside the front gate”, “please bring a trailer”, “heavy — two people recommended”.
5. Post it. Your listing goes live to people nearby straight away.

The whole thing takes under a minute.

Every listing stays live for 4 hours, or until 6:00 pm, whichever comes first. You will see a countdown on your own listing — “LIVE FOR 3h 32m”. Post at 3:30 pm and it runs to 6:00 pm rather than into the evening, because there is no point being up for grabs after the last moment anyone could collect it.

When the time is up we ask you one question: is it still available?

If you do not answer within 4 hours the listing retires on its own, so nobody turns up for something that went hours ago. The 6:00 pm close catches anything still waiting.

1. Find something nearby. The feed shows free items within 5 km by default. You can narrow it to 1 or 2 km.
2. Tap “I’m keen”. You will be asked to confirm — it takes the item out of the feed for everyone else. This closes at 5:00 pm.
3. Get the address. The collection address appears in My Collections, along with any collection notes. Collect from the spot in the notes only — do not knock or go inside.
4. Go and collect it before 6:00 pm. That is the deadline whenever you said you were keen — tap it at 4:50 pm and you still have until 6:00 pm, not the following day. If you cannot make it, say so, so someone else can have it.
5. Mark it collected. That closes the loop for the person who gave it away.

Being keen holds an item on Kerb Side, but it cannot hold it on the kerb. Things are left out in the open, so a passer-by may have taken it before you get there. If it has gone, say you’re no longer keen from My Collections — and please do not knock to ask about it.

Kerb Side is not a marketplace. There are no prices, no offers, no swaps, no koha. Any listing that mentions money is refused automatically. This is the rule that makes the rest of it work — nobody has to haggle, and nobody has to wonder whether they are being taken for a ride.
